Eileen C. Copeland, age 86, Logansport, passed away at 7:56 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016, in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Born October 15, 1930, in Logansport, Eileen was the daughter of Maurice “Pete” and Gladys Ruch Conroy.

On June 12, 1955, in St. Bridget’s Church, she was married to Richard B. Copeland, who survives. Father Francis Meehan officiated at the wedding.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Vivian Harrington (husband, Todd), Winchester, VA, Christopher Copeland, Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. Maureen Ellis (husband, James), Greenville, NC; grandson, James Ellis, Raleigh, NC, granddaughter, Kathryn Ellis-Fowler (husband, Trey), Boone, NC; great-grandson, Quay Fowler; and a sister, Virginia Butler, Dallas, TX.

Eileen was preceded in death by an infant son, Bruce Copeland, and a sister.

A 1948 graduate of Logansport High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1952 and a master’s degree in 1958, both from Ball State Teachers College.

Eileen was an elementary school teacher and taught at St. Bridget’s School, Jefferson School and Fairview School.

She was an active member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and later All Saints Catholic Church. She served as a lector, school board member, school volunteer and parish council member.

Eileen was a member of the Mary Dykeman Guild, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a founding member of Kappa Kappa Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.

She also belonged to the National Education Association, Cass County Teachers Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, League of Women Voters, where she was past president and the Jay-ettes, where she was also past president. She volunteered at the Cass County Historical Society Museum and delivered Meals on Wheels for fourteen years.

Eileen loved her Mustang convertible and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She and her husband traveled the world, climbed the Great Wall of China, cruised the Nile River, saw the Holy Land and took flat Stanley to Alaska. She loved Disney World and regarded it as the happiest place on earth.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016, at Kroeger Funeral Home, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, also at the funeral home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31st, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Clayton Thompson officiating.
