James M. "Big Jim" Johnson, 80, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born in Logansport on May 16, 1937, he was the son of Robert Charles and Evelyn L. Neal Johnson.
A 1956 graduate of Logansport High school, Jim was a veteran of the United States Marines, and had been a union brick mason for 50 years, retiring from Ziolkowski Construction.
He enjoyed catfishing, mushroom hunting, trapping, and playing pool. Jim was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Isaac Walton League, and a life member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craftsmen, Chapter 18, Local 4.
Big Jim never met a stranger. His mornings started early at 4:30 with his breakfast families at the White House Restaurant and Bullshippers Café. His other regular stops were at the Dutch Mill and Krieg’s Tavern.
Surviving are step-son, Larry Hayden, step-daughter, Annette Davis, and sister, Judith A. Smith, all of Logansport; nephews, Robert C. Quillen and Gerald Lee Quillen, Jr.
The visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Kroeger Funeral Home.
The service will follow at 3:00 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Pastor Nick Robinson and Mr. Kelly Spencer officiating.
The graveside service and interment with full military honors will be at 9:30 a.m., on Monday, December 4, 2017, in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmaus Mission Center or the Salvation Army. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
