Joan M. Riggle

Joan M. Riggle, age 91, Logansport, passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Born May 13, 1925, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Agnes Bertha Schreyer Cowan.

A “war bride”, Joan was married on January 12, 1943, in Brisbane, Australia, to Shirley M. “Chuck” Riggle, who preceded her in death on January 28, 1992.

Joan retired in 1982 after 26 years as a shipping clerk for General Tire. She was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church and had served on the board of St. Margaret’s House in South Bend.

Everyone loved Joan’s Australian accent.

Surviving are her children, and their spouses, Richard C. Riggle, Beverly D. (Dan) Ellington, all of Logansport, Cheryl L. (Bruce) Todd, Fort Wayne, and Peter D. (Carmella) Riggle, Logansport; sister, Dawn Way, Townsville, Queensland, Australia; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

One brother, Harold Cowan, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 17,2017, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, also at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Fr. Clark Miller officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Cemetery at a later date.
