As the case with many in the great town of Walton, Jack was a pillar of the community, a standard bearer for the Lewis Cass Kings and a fine man and gentleman. He leaves a wonderful legacy and memories and we all were better off for knowing him. My sincere condolences to the family and close friends during this difficult time.

Jack and I started together in kindergarten at Washington grade school. Soon I was walking up Melbourne to Jack's house for whatever game or sport was in season. I was privileged to stand in for the brother Jack never had. Bud and Thelma were like godparents for me. One year I sent Bud a Father's Day card.
The years brought trips to see the Cubs, cub scouts, summer softball as the West Side Tigers (me pitching, Jack at shortstop}, meals at Harvey's where I once dated the girl he had his eye on. Yes, it was 75 years of brotherhood.
We were both concerned for our wives in recent months and would cry through our phone calls. We ended one recent call each telling the other that we loved him.
God speed, Jack.
Pete

Mr. Petrie,
Thank you for your much-appreciated thoughts here. Dad spoke of you often and felt terrible for you with your wife's recent health problems. Your 75 year friendship truly meant the world to him, so best wishes to you and thank you again for thinking as much of our father as we, his kids and family, did.
Sincerely,
Kelly

My favorite memory of Mr. A. County tourney time my senior year. Newspaper called school wanting cheerleaders to come in for photo. Not many students had cars or drove to school. Mr. Cole, You can use Mr. A's car and we'll pay him mileage with the miles for driver's ed. Mr. A comes to office, "Well, Barb doesn't have a license, I had Anita and Pat in Driver's Ed. Grace-you drive."
Mr. A will be missed very much by our class

I can hear your response to "How are you?" of "Lovely to look at, delightful to hold and pleasant to talk to...and all around full of you-know-what!". Ha!Ha! To Rovena and all of the Ayers family,
It was with great sadness that I heard about the passing of this wonderful, caring, teacher and Coach. He was both of things in many more ways than just on the ball field or classroom. Our family friendship goes back nearly 50 years. We have many wonderful memories of getting together with your family. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I'm just so glad that he and I got to see our beloved Cubs win the Big One last year. Love y'all.

I know Jack because his beautiful daughter, Janalee, married my son Bill 28 years ago. Jack and Rovena taught her many lessons that allowed them to raise a great family of 4 children. The family is a very tight knit group, especially when it comes to cheering for the Cubs. When they won the World Series, Jack knew that he could now Rest in Peace. May you be truly Blessed in that great dugout in Heaven, Jack.

Their contributions to the Southeastern school system can never be duplicated as they lived for each of their students and we all felt their compassion and passion for our education. Jack was my coach for many years and I will forever remember the lessons he taught me and my teammates. I pray you have found Peace Jack and know you will forever be watching over your students!

Love and light to the Ayers family! Jack was an amazing teacher, a wonderful coach and one of the best human meetings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. So many wonderful memories. When my mom passed Jack was there that night for my dad and when we returned from her funeral in Wisconsin he delivered a 5 course meal Ravina had prepared for us. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and her failing health. Prayers for everyone touched by this amazing couple...
