He was the inspiration for my decision to attend Newcomb College and was always kind during my early days in NOLA. An enthusiastic, joyful person and truly a leader for the Hoosier State. Dear Dixie, Bray, Merritt, Teddy, and family,
I wanted to extend my condolences on the passing of your husband and father. I got to know Nelson much better in recent years serving as a co-trustee with him after the passing of my father in Jan. 2008. He was a very good man who cared deeply about all of you, and I will personally miss our conversations. I wish you great personal strength and fortitude to endure through this very difficult time in your life.

Dixie, I am so very sorry to read of Nelson's death. J.B. and I enjoyed so many Colts games with the two of you! I was sorry for that reason as well as other ones that Baker & Daniels took my tickets away when J.B. died. I send you many prayers and thoughts of comfort in these next months ahead.

I remember Nelson when he came to our sixth grade class at Daniel Webster encouraging us to join the YMCA. Then I remember him as one of the best cheerleaders the Berries ever had or will have. Even then I thought he would make an excellent politician. Among his many virtues was that he was an excellent public speaker and could relate to everyone. My sincere condolences to his family.

Nelson and I served in the Legislature, both starting in 1967. NOT only was he an outstanding legislator but a good and loyal friend. My sincere condolences to Dixie and family on the loss of a true gentleman.

Nelson was an amazing man! The Indiana Chapter of the NWRA was blessed to have him represent us as our chapter lobbyist! His ability to communicate our goals and make great decisions demonstrated his passion for leadership!
