Robert M. “Jack” Chambers, age 81, Logansport, passed away
at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, in his residence.
He had been courageously battling lung cancer since August of
this year.

Jack was born on June 3,1936 in Cass County to Dennis and
Dorothy Chambers and he was raised on a farm by his
grandparents, V.P. “Doc” and Malinda Chambers. His childhood
on the farm undoubtedly was a major influence throughout his
life.

He graduated from Logansport High School in 1954 and then
worked his way through college earning an accounting degree
from Indiana University in Bloomington. Following college
graduation in 1959, he enlisted in the army where he served as
a medical and financial clerk for army personnel.

Once Jack left the army in 1961, he went to work for the IRS as
a field auditor in Ft. Wayne. In 1966, he moved back to
Logansport to open his own accounting firm. He managed
Chambers & Co., CPA, LLC until his retirement from the firm in
2015. He served the area for over 50 years providing
accounting and tax services to his beloved clients.

Jack returned to his farming roots in 1976 when he bought his
first farm. He would grow this into a business raising corn,
soybeans, hay, and cattle over the years, while sharing many
life lessons with his children along the way.

Combining his love of farming and business, he purchased with
partners the local John Deere dealership, which became known
as Green Power, in 1991 and eventually became the sole
owner in 1995. As the agribusiness environment evolved he
joined forces with two other dealerships to form Tri Green
Tractor in 2011.

In 1994, Jack was quoted as saying he had no plans to retire
and up until he was diagnosed with cancer he was working
every day.

Over and above his love and respect for his family, Jack was an
avid IU football and basketball fan. He was a season ticket
holder of IU football for over 50 years, and trips to IU in the fall
were something he always enjoyed. Jack also always had a
dog in his life, many of which were rescues, to keep watch
around the house and on the farm, with Clyde holding guard
today.

He met his wife, Doris R. Rush of Walton, of almost 49 years
through friends and married in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on December
5, 1968. They started their family in 1970 raising three
children, Claudia (Teddy) Mager of Granger, Cara (Chris)
Stienbarger of Logansport, and Calvin (Abbey) Chambers of
Zionsville. His heart was broken in 2012 when Cara passed
away after her own battle with cancer.

Jack has seven grandchildren: Maren, Theodore, Trenton, and
Meadow Mager of Granger and Georgiana, Margaret, and
Chester Chambers of Zionsville.

Jack had five siblings: Della Quinn, South Bend, Ves (Lindus)
Chambers, Fowler, who survive. Eddie Chambers, Fort Wayne,
Thomas Chambers and Margaret Kreighbaum, Logansport
preceded him in death. He had two special aunts in his life,
Freda Vaughan and Catherine “Kate” Schrader, who preceded
him in death as well.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October
30th, at Calvary Presbyterian Church with a luncheon to follow
at 12:00 p.m. in Bigler Hall. Interment will be at Mount Hope
Cemetery following the luncheon.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Kroeger
Funeral Home, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at
Calvary Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Cass County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 441, or Calvary
Presbyterian Church, 701 Spencer Street, both Logansport
46947.
