Raymond Charles Bowyer, 68, Walton, passed away at Pipe Creek Falls, his lifelong home.

He was born July 23, 1948, in Peru, Indiana.  He attended Lewis-Cass High School and the predecessor Tipton Township schools in Walton and Onward.

Raymond graduated from Logansport High School in 1966 and joined the United States Navy in 1967. His bachelor degree in business was earned at Indiana University Kokomo in 1986 and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence was conferred at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis in 1989.

He also farmed, had his own excavating business, was a member of Local 103 International Union of Operating Engineers in Kokomo, the Peru-Miami Masonic Lodge 67, and the National Rifle Association. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite in Ft. Wayne.

Raymond loved cats, gospel and Western music, reading, poetry and his Red Wing boots. He was especially attached to Robert W. Service and his epic poems, several of which he could recite by rote. He had published poetry, enjoyed hunting, could quote from the Bible, had been a barbershop quartet member and was always keen for a heated argument.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Mayne and Mary Ost Bowyer and his half-brother Paul J. Witte.

Surviving are his sister Barbara (Ruben) Valencia, Oswego, IL, and her four children; Shane (Lisa) Hornbeck, Aurora, IL; Noel (Niki) Valencia and DeLaney ‘Kiki’ Valencia, both of Oswego, IL; and Kerstin (Eddie) Villalobos, Montgomery, IL; several grand nieces and nephews; and a multitude of cousins.

Interment will be at a later date at Bowyer Cemetery near Pipe Creek Falls.  In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to an Alzheimer’s or mental health research organization.
