Bernard M. "Bernie" Mangan Obituary

Bernard M. “Bernie” Mangan, age 87, Walton, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018, in North Woods Village.

Born in Reynolds on August 18, 1931, he was the son of Martin and Gertrude Mangan.

On June 2, 1962, at St. Patrick’s Church, Oxford, Ind., he was married to Donna Dwenger, who survives. They were married 56 years.

Bernie was employed as a dispatcher for Courier-Newsom Trucking Company and Schwerman Trucking Company.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he had served as Eucharistic Minister.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was a member of the Walton American Legion Post 418, where he served as Commander and Adjutant. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3790 and 40 et 8 Voiture 729.

Bernie loved watching Notre Dame football.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Cathy (Eric) Richter, Logansport, son, John (Heather) Mangan, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jesse Richter, Lucas Richter, Kate Mangan and Carter Mangan; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Michael, Patrick, James, Peter and John and four sisters, Margaret, Rosemary, Mary and Bernadette.

The family wishes to thank Fr. Jeff Martin, Guardian Angel Hospice, Bill and Ellen Richter, Denny and Marian Henry and Bernie’s many friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at All Saints Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.

Interment with full military honors provided by Uniformed members of the United States Air Force and the local Military Honor Guard will be in the Mount Calvary Section of Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or the American Legion Post 418.
