Frank N. Small, Jr., age 89, Thorntown, formerly of Logansport, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 8:10 p.m. in his residence.
Born August 29, 1929, in Logansport, he was the son of Frank N. Small, Sr., and Grace Edith Dederick Small.
On June 2, 1951, at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, he was married to Virginia J. Decker, who preceded him in death on May 3, 1998.
Frank had been employed by the Wabash Railroad and Norfolk & Western Railway before retiring from the Norfolk Southern Railroad. During his railroad career he had resided in Roanoke, VA, and Atlanta, GA.
Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Pulaski Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, where he had been Faithful Navigator.
A United States Army veteran, Frank was a member of the American Legion Post 218, Thorntown.
He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Crawfordsville.
Surviving are a daughter, Penelope “Penny” S. (Michael “Mick”) Monahan, Thorntown; grandchildren, Alexander George Banks, Thorntown, Patrick Ian Kavanaugh Banks, Lebanon, Stephanie Ann (Frank) Brinkley, North Carolina, Jennifer Michelle (Madison) Matthews, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Kaylie Brinkley and Oliver Brinkley; son-in-law, Garrett Sprouse, North Carolina.
Also surviving are a long-time companion, Janice Cress, Twelve Mile; her sons, Bruce (Lori) Cress and Kent Cress, all of Twelve Mile; her grandchildren, Kayley (James) Motz, Colorado, Kimberly Cress, North Dakota and Katherine Cress, Twelve Mile; also Abigail Lee, who Frank regarded as a granddaughter and Harper Delashmit, who Frank regarded as a great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Sprouse.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church, Logansport, with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p. m. on Thursday, March 14th, at Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport, where the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand guard. A Scriptural Wake Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with full military honors.
