James Z. “Bake” Baker, age 87, Logansport, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, in the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.
Born in Logansport on July 8, 1932, he was the son of Zorah and Geraldine Hartwick Baker.
On November 29, 1958, he married Colette DuBois, who preceded him in death on April 5, 1993.
Jim had been Vice President of Controls, Inc., retiring in 1994. A 1951 graduate of Logansport High School, Jim was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60. He was also a member of the Logansport Elks, BPOE #66.
Jim enjoyed playing golf and loved vacationing in Florida on Anna Maria Island. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. He used to say that the best thing about football is that basketball isn’t far behind. He was a proud Democrat.
Surviving are daughters, Kelly Ann (Richard) Callaway, Logansport and Patty Colette (Kenny) Shaffer, Royal Center; brother, Michael (Kay) Baker, Connecticut; grandchildren, Marc (Kelsey) Gordon, Jimmy (Michelle) Gordon, Erin (Marc) Eldridge, Cory (Amanda) Osborn, Holly (Lee) Whittaker, and Adam Weaver; Eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and long-time companion, Kris Brubaker.
In addition to Colette, Jim was preceded in death by their son, James T. ‘Ted’ Baker; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Jim Sanders; and brother-in-law: Howard DuBois.
Friends may greet the family from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Kroeger Funeral Home.
A Scripture Service and Celebration of Jim’s life will be at 6:00 p.m., also on Tuesday, December 3rd, at the funeral home, with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating. The Logansport Elks will conduct a memorial service following the Scripture Service, also at the funeral home.
Private interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
