Robert J. 'Smokey' Kendall Obituary

Robert J. ‘Smokey’ Kendall, 92, Logansport, passed away at 9:48 a.m., on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Memorial Hospital.

Born on January 24, 1926, in Logansport, he was the son of Lawrence D. and Dora E. Schrader Kendall.

On September 24, 1949, in Logansport, he was married to Rita A. Morris, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2014.

Smokey retired in 1970 with the rank of Captain from the Logansport Fire Department, where he had been employed since 1948.  He had also been a design engineer for Universal Fire Apparatus for 17 years, and a product engineer at United Technologies for 20 years.

A 1943 graduate of Logansport High School, he attended Lawrence Tech and IUPUI, and was a United States Navy veteran, having served during World War II.

Bob was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he had been an usher, Cass County Historical Society, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion, VFW, Elks, Knights of Columbus, and Indiana Firefighters Association.  As an avid golfer and maker of golf clubs, he was also a member of Dykeman Golf Course Association and Golf Clubmakers Association.

Surviving are children, Kathleen (Greg) Holton, Indianapolis, Linda (Robert) Schaeffer, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Thomas J. Kendall, Los Angeles; grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Holton, Benjamin Holton, and Jennifer (Justin) Lucky-Ballard; great grandchildren, Ashley Holton, Kendall Holton, Mason Holton, Kendall Lucky-Ballard, and Fallon Lucky-Ballard.

He was preceded in death by sister, Doloris Gundrum.

The visitation will be 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 21, 2018, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Dominic Petan officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded.
