Vera A. Berkshire Obituary

Vera (Harrison) Berkshire, 86, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2019 in her hometown of Logansport.

A 1950 graduate of Logansport High School, she married Donald E. Berkshire in the summer of 1950 after being crowned King and Queen of the LHS prom that spring.

Vera joined the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (now All Saints Catholic Church) and became an active member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She also served for many years as a Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader in the 1960s.

Once her children were in school, Vera worked as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant for several small businesses. Her best memories were of her time working in the Cass County Clerk’s office.

In 1994, Don and Vera moved to Mesa, Arizona where they became active members of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Don passed away in 2011, and Vera’s health slowly declined afterwards. Last summer her family chose to move her back to Logansport where she spent her remaining days being cared for by the wonderful staff at McKinney Place.

Vera is survived by her three children: Jeff Berkshire and his wife Susan of Canton, GA, Melissa Berkshire of Chicago, and Liz Guinan and her husband Tom of Chapel Hill, North Carolina (formerly Scottsdale, AZ). Also surviving are Vera’s two granddaughters, whom she loved dearly, Mea Cole Tefka of New York, New York, and Rebecca Berkshire of Canton, GA.

Vera asked to be remembered for her love of family and friends, and her dedication to her church.

The family will hold a Funeral Mass at All Saints Catholic Church on June 29, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Gustavo Lopez officiating. Guests may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the Parish Hall, prior to the service.

Interment in the Columbarium at Ever-Rest Memorial Park will immediately follow the service.

The family asks that friends consider donating to the Cass County Humane Society, 700 Water Street, Logansport, 46947 in lieu of flowers to honor Vera’s lifelong love of cats.
