Walter J. "Bud" Smith Obituary

Walter J. “Bud” Smith, age 75, Logansport, passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019, at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Lafayette East.

Born March 2, 1944, in Logansport, he was the son of William S. and Mary Louise Castaldi Smith.

On May 30, 2004, Bud was married to Cheryl Palmer Holloway, who survives.

Bud was retired from Shilling Sales of Fort Wayne.

A 1962 graduate of Logansport High School and 1966 graduate of Indiana University, where he played baseball. He served in the United States Army in Alaska as a second lieutenant.

A man of many interests, Bud enjoyed playing golf, IU Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, all sports and especially fishing trips to Canada with a group who called themselves the “Wild Bunch”. He enjoyed playing games, traveling and was generally an outdoorsman.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Cheryl, are sisters, Linda Shaughnessy, Shelby, OH, and Carol (Jeff) Crawmer, Peoria, IL; step-son, Christopher (Amy) Holloway, Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Madeleine Holloway, Sophia Holloway and Cecelia Holloway; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a niece, Brooke Joseph and brother-in-law, Joseph Shaughnessy.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July 1, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.

The visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Interment, with full military honors provided by the Cass County Honor Guard and uniformed active-duty members of the United States Army, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, 112 E. Market Street, Logansport, 46947.
