Jerry A. Anderson, age 85, Logansport, passed away at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born March 17, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Theodore and Dorthea Deck Anderson.
The service of entombment will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Strite will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Cass County Honor Guard.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 17, 1938. He was the son of Theodore and Dorthea Anderson, deceased. Jerry graduated from Logansport High School class of 1956. He shortly thereafter entered the Navy for four years. After discharge he obtained a job as an electronic technician at Delco in Kokomo. With hard work and studying at IU-PUI in Kokomo, he obtained engineer status and designed and built various pieces of test equipment.
He met his soul-mate Betty Atkisson at Howard Community Hospital after having an accident. She was a PTA who helped him walk again. They were married eight months later on December 31, 1966.
Jerry and Betty both were members of the Logansport Church of Christ for several years. Jerry had worked at Delco Electronics and retired, and then worked at Chrysler as a journeyman electrician for another five years when he retired at 65. Jerry then started a lawn service and at the same time worked at Home Depot for another seven years as the greeter at the entrance door. Jerry liked to help and be around people all the time.
He was a 50-year-member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge #111 and the Kokomo chapter of York Rite #104 R.A.M., Council #60 R. & S.M. and Kokomo Commandery #36 of the Knights Templar. He loved animals, especially dogs. He always said he liked dogs better than people. He fed a crippled deer because it could not keep up with the herd and her family grew to nine and they all would come to eat at his house twice a day.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Julie Lancaster, Kokomo, Douglas (Tina) Anderson, Chatsworth, Georgia, Kimberly Anderson, Kokomo, Beth (Adam) McNine, Easley, SC, Amanda (Chris) Layer, Logansport, Angela (Eric) Hyman, North Vernon, Indiana. Multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Anderson, and two sisters, Joan Henry Harris and Margaret Dean.
