John Joseph Bishop, age 75, of Galveston, passed away with his family by his side at 1:32 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Howard Community Regional Health, Kokomo.

 Born in South Bend, on September 20, 1946, he was the son of Charles Patrick Bishop and Anna Bishop (Gall) Tignor. After the passing of his father, Anna married Robert Tignor who was his beloved step-father.

 On November 23, 1974, in Hammond, John was married to Pamela J. Lucht, who survives. In August of 1979, John and Pam welcomed their daughter, Angela, into the world and their family was complete.

 Raised in Griffith, Indiana, John graduated from Griffith High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 49 years. He had a lifelong career in the steel industry in Distribution and Logistics Management. He retired from Sun Steel in 2011.

 John and Pam lived in Griffith on Woodlawn Avenue across from his beloved brother, Charles (Cookie) Bishop. He loved his neighbors and close friends from Griffith High School. He had a passion for always working on the Woodlawn house and cooking elaborate meals. He was always willing to go out of his way to help his family and friends for any favor, big or small.

 John was happy when his daughter and beloved son-in-law, Darren Jones, welcomed his grandchildren, Camryn and Brody, into the world. He was an extremely proud “Papa”. He and Pam moved to Galveston, in 2018, and they have enjoyed seeing their family almost daily ever since.

 Surviving are his wife, Pam; daughter, Angela (Bishop) Jones, son-in-law, Darren Jones; grandchildren, Camryn and Brody Jones; sister-in-law, Cookie Bishop; brother-in-law, Craig (Mary Jo) Lucht; nephew, Sean Bishop (Reggie Stotts); and nieces, Amy (Mark) Scott, and Kayti (Chris) Gonzalez.

 John was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Bishop; mother, father and stepfather.

 John’s visitation will be on Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Kroeger Funeral Home. A full military service by active members of the United States Army and Cass County Honor Guard will be accorded at 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow, with Rev. Dr. Dan Lute officiating.  Interment will be at a later date.

 Memorial contributions can be made to the Galveston Volunteer Fire Department, 101 E. Jackson Street, Galveston 46932 or American Legion Post 418, 111 S. Depot Street, Walton 46994, in celebration of the life of John J. Bishop.
