Reverend Stephen M. Gill Obituary

Rev. Stephen M. Gill, 73, Peru and Logansport, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel.

Born in Logansport on October 16, 1947, he was the son of John T. and Irene B. (Jackson) Gill. His mother survives in Indianapolis.

On November 16, 1968, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Logansport, he was married to Sharon J. Thompson, who preceded him in death on July 28, 2017.

A 1965 graduate of Logansport High School, Steve obtained a Doctorate of Theology from Logos Graduate School and retired in 2007, after 35 years of serving as an ordained minister. He recently completed a book regarding the Biblical Book of Revelation for publication.

A true American Patriot, he was a proud United States Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era, after which he was honorably discharged.

Steve was an avid coin collector, and was a passionate University of Notre Dame football, Chicago Bears football and Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

Surviving Steve are son, Stephen M. (Keisa) Gill II, Bonita Springs, Florida, whose children are Aaron Gill, Elianna Gill, Christian Gill and Karinna Gill; and son, Shawn (Mia) Gill, Jasper, Georgia, and their children, Kalah Gill, Salina Gill, Jasen (Alexis) Gill, whose son is Jayden Gill, and Cassidy Gill, whose son is Liam Love. 

Also surviving  are daughter, Shara C. E. Alvarado, Peru, whose children are Emily (Quinn) Reinhardt, Zachariah Alvarado, Elijah Alvarado and Isabelle Alvarado; daughter, Shealey (Tony) Pena, Logansport, and their children, A.J. Pena and Malena Pena; and daughter, Stephanie (Brian) Lanter, Winchester, whose children are Lily Lanter, Haley Lanter, Brennen Lanter, Williem Lanter, Harrisen Lanter and Annahley Lanter.

Also surviving are brother, Thomas (Jackie) Gill, Indianapolis; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Bracy, Rogers, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father and wife, Sharon, he was also preceded in death by infant daughter, Schantell Gill, in 1973.

The visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Friday, October 8, 2021 and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The service, officiated by Steve's son, Rev. Stephen Michael Gill, II, will follow the visitation on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Cass County Honor Guard.
