Susan K. Brugh Obituary

Former Logansport, IN resident, Susan K. Brugh, 73, died on April 6, 2021, from Alzheimer’s.  She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Susan was born October 21, 1947, in Adamsboro, IN to the late Basil H. Skinner and Lucille (Wilson) Skinner. Born and raised on her parents’ dairy farm, she learned hard work and a love for gardening.  For years, she was a member of the Miami Baptist Church, in Adamsboro.

She met her husband, James L. Brugh, while working at Mr. Happy Burger in Logansport and they married on November 21, 1964.  They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year.  Fortunate enough to have been each other’s best friend, they chose to spend more days together than ever apart.

For the first two decades of her marriage, Susan was known for being the neighborhood “stay-at-home mom”.  While being a homemaker, she combined her passion for all things kitchen with her passion for gardening.  Her scratch kitchen was known for making food using produce from her own garden and canning for friends and family. She loved reading cookbooks, sharing recipes, cooking, baking of breads, cookies and beautifully hand decorated cakes.

Her family was the most important part of her life. Susan lost her mother at a young age and often would tell everyone how her mother-in-law, Eileen Brugh, was one of her best friends.  She was a loyal friend and often stated you didn’t have to share her blood to be part of her family. Susan was the mom cheering on the bleachers at many sporting events as well as the adopted mom to those who needed a ride, a hug or a familiar face.

Susan had a great love for animals and a passion for dogs, and an infinite love for one very special toy poodle, “Pandy Jean the Champion”.

Once her children were close to leaving the home, she focused her time on her career in the retail industry where she was able to pair her love for fine jewelry and fashion into her work. The 80s fashion inspired some of her favorite looks.  She loved fashion and had an amazingly classic look she adorned.

Decorating their house was one of her favorite past times. She would put her excellent seamstress hand into making pillows and decorations for the home. She had an appreciation for well-crafted home furnishings and art.  Susan was determined to accomplish anything she set her mind to do. After her children moved away she started a complete re-model of their family home creating a wonderful outdoor living area that she designed and built with her husband, Jim, and her deceased brother-in-law, Mike Brugh. For many years she and her husband entertained friends and family in that outdoor living space while having wonderful views of a wooded nature landscape.

But most of all, her favorite part of her life was becoming a grandparent!  She loved watching the grandchildren grow up and made any excuse to be with them, create a special memory with them in the kitchen, and spoiling them with love or a gift from grandma. Her purpose was her family.

She and her husband, Jim lived together for 40+ years in their home before moving to Brownsburg, IN. There she had a love for going on car rides, watching anything HGTV, especially, Chip and Joanna Gaines, Hallmark movies and any episode of the Golden Girls. Her “grand-doggers” brought a smile to her on many occasions.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, James L. Brugh, Brownsburg, son, Timothy J. (Shelly) Brugh, Indianapolis; daughter, Amy (Evan) Caffee, Brownsburg; grandchildren, Nick Brugh, Chicago, Tara Brugh, Indianapolis, and Kelsie Herron, Kansas City, MO; sisters, Shelbie (Steve) Kinder, Kokomo and Charlotte Zeider (Guy Jackson), Greenwood; sisters-in-law, Carol (Ralph) Kramer, Shelbyville and Karen Brugh, Pittsville, WI; and brother-in-law, Jerry Williams, Logansport, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins all across the country, and grand-doggers and great grand-doggers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil H. Skinner and Lucille (Wilson) Skinner, her brother, Richard Skinner of Bradenton, FL; beloved poodle, Pandy Jean and many granddoggers.

The visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Sunday April 11th, for family and friends at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport.
