David E. ‘Ed’ Johnson, Sr. 66, Logansport, passed away at 10:50 p.m., on Thursday, January 10, 2019, in Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 29, 1952, he was the son of Robert L. and Audna F. Maus Johnson.
On August 29, 1992, in Trinity Episcopal Church, Logansport, he was married to Patricia A. Coffin, who survives. Fr. Michael Haas officiated the ceremony.
A 1971 graduate of Logansport High School, he received a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in 1991.
Ed began his career with the Logansport Police Department on July 21, 1978, retiring after 26 years, on July 21, 2004, as a First Sergeant. In later years, he had been the Chaplain for the LPD.
He had also been a realtor with Brokerage House, as well as, Galloway, Murray & Scheetz.
He worshipped God and adored his wife, and was very proud of his son and grandsons. Sharing his faith was very important to Ed.
At the Logansport Church of the Brethren, Ed had been an associate pastor; later on, he was the pastor for the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren.
He had also worked in security for the Cass County Court House.
Ed was a Colts, Cubs, and IU fan. He loved traveling and going to the beach.
He also loved his fur babies, Maggie and Payton.
Also surviving are a son, David E. (Mianda) Johnson, Jr., Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister, Laura Lee Sechen, Cedar Lake; grandsons, David E. III and Zane B. Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother and sister-in-law, William Maus and Susan Johnson; and nephew, Michael Lee Sechen.
The service will be on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Montgomery officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, also at the funeral home, with a Fraternal Order of Police service conducted at 2:45 p.m.
