Dominic J. Mittica Obituary

Dominic J. Mittica, 90, Logansport, passed away in Miller’s Merry Manor on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 8:15 a.m.

Born in Logansport, in March 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Rocco and Maria (Coluccio) Mittica.

On June 28, 1954, in St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, he was married to Marie McManus, who survives.

Dominic was a 1946 graduate of Logansport High School. He later served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He retired from General Tire after 43 years as a Tool and Die Maker.

Dominic was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, VFW Post #3790 and American Legion Post #60.

Also surviving family includes children, Ann (Tim) Adams, Willow Springs, NC, Terri (Curt) Brazzle, Logansport, Sue (Rod) Erny, Kokomo, Dominic Jr. ‘Butch’ (Becky) Mittica, Coats, NC, and Bernie (Gloria) Mittica, Royal Center.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hanna (Zach) Zullinger, Nathan Adams, Jessica Brazzle and fiancé Jarred Schlinglof, Nichole (Michael) Rivers, Samuel and Daniel Mittica, Wils (Courtney) Mittica, Ryan (Lauren) Layer, Jennifer Layer, and Ben Layer. Also, great grandchildren, Dominic, Ellie, Ava, Lois, Ronald, Garth, Marley, and Mattie.

Surviving siblings include Mary Melton, Rochester, and Angie Schroder, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.

Dominic was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Gregory “Shorty” Lauretti; brothers, Nicholas Mittica and Nicholas F. Mittica; sister, Josephine and her husband William Graybeal; brother Frank and his wife Phyllis “Jean” Mittica; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Schroder and Curt Melton.

Dominic was avid about fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and gardening, He spent endless hours making spinning baits, bobbers, fishing poles, ice fishing lures, and anything else related to fishing, he could make it. His back yard was encircled by fruit trees, grape arbors, and garden.

He loved to read books, “even while he was deer hunting”.  Dominic had an intricate personality which made it impossible for his friends not to like. Next to his family and relatives, his best friends come from work.

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Dominic and for always being there with a helping hand. Now we thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by, we will miss you even more. We love you.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, August 13, 2018, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 6:15 p.m., on Sunday, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Interment, where full military honors will be accorded, will be in Bethel Cemetery.
