THIS SERVICE IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2017...THE DAY FOLLOWING THANKSGIVING.

Frederick D. “Fred” Righi, 89, Logansport, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 8:45 a.m.

He was the son of Joseph R. and Victoria Caputo Righi, who sailed to America in 1913, a trip that took 23 days.

On February 13, 1928, Fred was born just down the road from the family farm, which is where he eventually made his home for the past 59 years.  Being the last local family member of his Righi/Caputo generation, Fred was proud of his Italian heritage.

He was a veteran of the US Army.  After military service, he was a truck driver for various companies for 41 years, retiring from Tucker Freightliner.  Throughout his life, he was a long-standing member of several local organizations and clubs.

Neighbors knew they could always count on Fred, as did his four sisters, family first.

Known to most as a constant prankster, Fred may have never met a stranger and if he did, that lucky person just didn’t know what they were in for.  Through the years, Fred adored his German Shepherds, enjoyed going to his place at Lake Shafer, and taking family and friends out on the boat.

In the 70’s IU Football was a must and he never missed a home game where he got to watch his nephew Rich Goyer play. It seemed that Fred always somehow made his way into the locker room after the game, mainly posing as a news reporter.

Fred will be missed by many, but comforting to know that he is with his new best friend, his Lord and Savior.

Surviving are children, Pam (Mike) Dempsey, Indianapolis, and Dennis (Becky) Grogg Sr., Logansport; grandchildren, John (Erica) Rose, Jason Dempsey, Dennis (Mena) Grogg Jr., David (Andrea) Grogg, Jason (Jennifer) Grogg, Ashley (Josh) Winkler, Zachary (Kim) Grogg, and Sara (Derrick) Hardy; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.  Also surviving are nephew, Dave (Barb) Goyer and great nephew, Tony (Kisha) Goyer, along with numerous cousins.

Preceding Fred in death were sisters, Angeline Gearish, Malvina Goyer, Cecelia Pashong, and Mary Raber; and nephew, Rich Goyer.

A Military Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, November 24, 2017, at Mount Hope Cemetery.
