I remember with gratitude Buddy's generous words about me after we had played a softball game together in Paris, and now I'm grateful to read of his lifetime of service after I left Grove High. I now pray for the strength and comfort of his family.

Dear Family,
I began working with Jim at Logansport State Hospital in 1978. I knew him before that because all the food service leaders and dietitians in the state hospitals knew one another through our networking and meetings.
I welcomed the opportunity to change employment from Indianapolis State Hospital LaRue Carter to work at LSH for many reasons but one of the important factors was to work and learn from Jim. I was not disappointed. Jim loved to visit. Many hours were spent discussing families, politics, cars, baseball, community plays, computers, the past, the future, and eventually we would get around to talking about work and what needed to get done. We worked hard too. Our working conditions and circumstances were not always the greatest. Many of my former co-workers and friends have talked on FaceBook about how these were some of the best memories, times, work friendships of our lives. And most of this was driven by Jim because he gave us the freedom to challenge the system, the status quo, the patients, ourselves, and even him. I can not even begin to write all the things we did. One of the things Jim use to say was everything that happened or that was done at the hospital was centered around food service. "It's like a chemical reaction, nothing could happen without or being the presences of food." I used this remark many times over my career. My sincere sympathies. Jim Dancy was a great boss and wonderful friend. I have thought of him often over the years and will continue to do so. He was such a big influence on me and how I approached my life. It was a joy to work and know him. Sincerely, Jocena Schafer Miller, Registered Dietitian and then Assistant Food Service Director at LSH 1978 - 1991.
