James R. 'Jimmy' Michael

James R. ‘Jimmy’ Michael, 64, of Lucerne, passed away on October 17, 2017, at 6:21 p.m. 

He was born to the late Harry Michael and Mildred “Millie” (Lyons) Lumbirt on September 20, 1953, in Logansport.

Jimmy graduated from Logansport High School in 1972, and led a successful career managing Arone Hardware before retiring in 2016, after 45 years of service. 

His passion of helping others could be seen through his dedicated work at the hardware store, not only locating needed items, but also finding other local services to make sure customers were satisfied. When his booming voice or contagious laugh was not filling the aisles of the store, he was off enjoying many other leisurely activities.

Jimmy was a member of the Shrine Club of Logansport, the Elks Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Southside Community Beautification Committee.

His pastime pleasures included quilting, canning, caring for his animals and pets, socializing, and pranking his loved ones. Most of all Jimmy valued spending time, caring for, and helping the people he loved, his friends and family.

Preceding him in death were his father, Harry Michael; mother, Mildred (Lyons) Lumbirt; step-father, Carl Lumbirt; and loved ones, Joseph Arone, and Joel and Nicholas Arone.

Jimmy’s remaining family by affection includes his partner, Jeffrey Weaver, Lucerne; Patricia Arone (Gordon Wilson), Logansport; Jerilyn Smith (Steven A.), Logansport; Jaime Smith (Nikki), Logansport; Paige Johansen-Schrum (Patrick, Jordan, Joel, Jenna), Logansport; Melissa Smith (Brody, Isabella), Royal Center; Elizabeth Lantz (Jonathan, Sawyer, Isaiah), Logansport; Debi Miller, Logansport; Ryan Miller (Tabitha), Nyona Lake; Rhett Miller (Stacy, Wyatt, Emmett), Carrboro; Alex Cosgray (Amanda, Willow), Monticello; Tyler Cosgray (Bella), Star City; Rachel Ruff (Justin), Monticello; and Nicole Foutch (Cole), Monticello.

The service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Fr. Stanislaw Tabor officiating.

Family and friends may call between the hours of 10:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., also on Saturday at the funeral home.  A Shriners Walk-by will be at 12:45 p.m.

Interment will follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
