Joseph B. Lavender, Jr., age 88, Logansport, passed away at 1:37 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born July 31, 1930, in Salem, Virginia, he was the son of Joseph B. and Bertha Grubb Lavender.
He was married to Marie R. DePalo, who preceded him in death on August 14, 1999.
Joe served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Tech Sergeant after twenty years. He saw combat service in Korea in 1950 and 1951 and combat service in Southeast Asia in 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790. He was also a member of the Air Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
He had also been a member of the Teamsters Union, Logansport Moose and Logansport Elks lodges.
Surviving are sons, Joseph B. Lavender III (Denise), Logansport and Newmanstown, PA, James L. Lavender (Mary), Monticello; sister, Elva King, Salem, VA; grandchildren, Joseph Lavender IV, William Justice Lavender, James Paul Lavender; great grandchildren, Lloyd Lavender, Emmet Lavender, Lila Lavender, Grayson Hager, Hailey Hager and Clyde Lavender; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Kroeger Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday following visitation, with Rev. Nathan Miller officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
