Mary Flowers Moore departed this life surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.

She was born March 7, 1920, in Wabash, to the union of Ogden and Juanita Weaver.  Mary was an only child and attended Wabash High School.

She moved to Logansport, married J.C. Flowers and from this union, seven children were born.  J.C. departed this life in 1948.  Despite being a young widow, Mary vowed to keep her family together, working hard and raising her children.  She was employed by Dr. Lowell J. and Helen Hillis, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mattson for 28 years.

In 1956, Mary married Jewel C. Moore.  Jewel’s daughter, Mary Sue Humphries, became a loving member of the family.  Mary and Jewel remained happily married until he departed this life in 1976.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age, she loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Zion Tabernacle.  Mary was a Virtuous Woman (Proverbs 31).  Those who knew her affectionately called her “Mother Mary” or “The Mayor”.  She leaves an enriched legacy of giving.  Her motto was “living is giving”.  Mary took what little she had and blessed many.  She also had a comical sense of humor and kept everyone laughing with her quick wit.  Family was her greatest joy in life and she instilled values that will be carried forward by them.

Mary is survived by her children, Melba Smith, Marion; Betty (Rev. Mark) Smith, Canton, Ohio; Wanda (Lester) Gooding, West Haven, Conn.; Judy Flowers, Chicago, and always lovingly referred to Patricia (Patty) Craddock, as her other daughter.

Mary was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Brian Smith, San Diego; Jeffrey (Toia) Flowers, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Dr. Joni Flowers, North Las Vegas, Nev.; Kyle Flowers, McHenry, Ill.; Merrijo and Christopher McDaniel, both of Chicago; Dr. Celena (Ron) Conyers, Derby, Conn.; Denise Flowers, Logansport; Terri Jones, Indianapolis; Melanie (Kevin) Flowers-Tate, Oxnard, Calif.; and Tiffany Gooding, Harford, Conn.  Mary had 17 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by four children, Howard Flowers, Clarence (Jitterbug) Flowers, Corrine Kice, and Mary Sue Humphries; sister, Naomi Rose Means; son-in-law, Arnold Smith, and long-time special friends, Dorothy Means and Olia Lay.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon, Friday, September 8, 2017, at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Smith, officiating.

Visitation will be 11:00 – 12:00 Noon, also at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the EN-RICH-MENT Program, 4110 Meadowview Drive, Canton, OH 44718.
