Mary E. Bender Obituary

Mary E. Bender, age 98, Logansport, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, June 3, 2019, in Franciscan Health East, Lafayette.

Born February 8, 1921, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John and Clara Smith Kilgas.

On March 1, 1939, she was married to George J. Bender, the love of her life, who preceded her in death on May 6, 2003.

George and Mary attended Grace Bible Church and it was there that she came to know the Lord. While attending Grace Bible Church, she was the church secretary and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed being a part of the Grace Belles at Grace Fellowship Church.

Mary was her daughter’s Teachers’ Aide at Tipton School. She also worked at the State Hospital as a secretary and had been employed at RCA in Monticello.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening and trying new recipes.

Surviving are a son, Larry (Mary Lou) Bender; daughter, Mary Lou Davis; sister, Betty Corn; sister-in-law, Glorine Smith; grandson, Todd, and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are friends, Nancy McKinley, David and Tracey Berry, Erik Willy, Dixie Widner, Pastor Jim and Barb Zimmerman and Pastor Buddy Holder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, two brothers and a son-in-law.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Kroeger Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
