Becky Lyn Rittenhouse Obituary

Becky Lyn Rittenhouse (Sr. Vincent Marie), age 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, in Apple Valley, California after a 2-year, hard -fought battle with cancer.

She was born on Wednesday, Aug 29, 1945, in Logansport, the third daughter of the late Frank and Cassie (Grusenmeyer) Rittenhouse.

Becky loved all sports; as a 1963 graduate of LHS, she was awarded a sports scholarship to continue her studies at ISU where she graduated in 1967.  She began her career as a teacher in Indianapolis.

Because her mother was Catholic and her father belonged to the Episcopal church, Becky spent the first half of her life in the Catholic faith and the last half of her life as a nun in the Episcopal church and the very last years of her life as a life-professed sister in the community at the Camaldolese Benedictine Community of Solitude.

Becky was proud to serve in the US Army as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps. She was on reserve during the Vietnam War.  At her last class reunion, when achievements were being acknowledged, she was recognized as the only female classmate to enlist, and the only classmate to earn, the rank of Captain.  She was surprised and humbled at that announcement.

Becky loved all of her animals and had a pet all of her life.   Her love of gardening included her very favorite flower- the yellow rose.

She loved music and being in the LHS choir and learning to play piano and organ. Becky was the assistant student director for her high school play.  Musical movies and plays were something she thoroughly enjoyed. One of her joys was meeting Jane Powell after a play that we attended. Jane had sung “Alice Blue Gown” and Becky told her that song was one of our parents’ favorite songs that they loved and danced to quite often.  Jane hugged her-- that was a touching moment that Becky talked about for many years.

The family whom she dearly loved will miss her beautiful smile, sense of humor and her laughter.

Surviving are her sisters, Julie (Martin) and Susie (Barker), her partner of 26 years, Pam Myers, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her infant brother, Charles William.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, on July 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., where full military honors will be accorded by the Cass County Honor Guard and members of the United States Army. Please meet at the cemetery’s arch at 12:45 p.m.
