Charles Webb Hastings, age 75, Logansport, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Friday, January 24th, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born September 10, 1949, in Winchester, Kentucky, he was the son of Clifford and Alma Tucker Hastings.
He married Deborah Krantz Howell in 1996.
A 1967 graduate of Logansport High School, Charlie then served in the United States Air Force.
He retired after 42 years from Matthew-Warren as a heavy press operator. For twelve years he was president of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 3261.
For twelve years he served as a City Councilman for the City of Logansport, the only Independent Candidate in Cass County ever to win a general election.
Charlie loved running and competed in 28 marathons. He made many friends as a runner, and they formed a tight running community.
He is survived by a son, Bryan (Melissa) Hastings, Austin, Texas, and their son, Brayden Hastings; and a daughter, Angela (Jesse) Zimmerman, Logansport, and their children, Charles Zimmerman and Meghan Slone; step-son, Clayton (Angela) Howell, Lexington, NC, and their daughters, Alexis (Trevin) Sluss and Brianna Howell, and her son, Carter Howell; and a step-daughter, Addie (Travis) Cucore, Depauw, Indiana; brother, John Hastings, Logansport, and a sister, Teresa Geiselman, Kokomo; nieces and nephews; good friends, John Ely and Pastor Carolyn DeWitt.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service.
The family expresses a special "thank you" to the excellent caregivers of the Guardian Angel Hospice and Comfort Keepers.
