Dana L. Crain Obituary

Dana L. Crain, age 74, Logansport passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, in Memorial Hospital. She was surrounded and comforted by her family.

Born January 12, 1949, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Richard and Louise Crain.

A 1967 graduate of Logansport High School, during school she worked at Sycamore Custard as a “custard cutie”.

Following graduation from high school, Dana moved to California and was employed at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) as an office manager. She later returned to Logansport following the death of her mother and became employed by Palumbo Distributing Company and General Tire.

Dana married Jim Johnson, who died in 2017. Although divorced, she and “big Jim” remained friends throughout his life.

Dana was an avid Scrabble player and mushroom hunter. She in playing cards with her family and friends. She liked the outdoors (when the sun was shining) and especially enjoyed basking in it.

Despite personal struggles during her life, when she could be difficult, Dana did enjoy being with people and including them in conversation and her favorite games. And smoking!

She never turned down a steak dinner

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jim Kleinschmidt; sister-in-law, Shirley Crain; great-nephew, Hunter Shank.

During high school Dana lived with her paternal grandparents, Donald and Isabelle Crain, who played an important role in her life during those formative years. Dana was also the granddaughter of Anthony and Angeline Iannelly, her mother’s parents.

Surviving are her siblings, Don Crain, Patricia Mitchell, Rita Kleinschmidt (Steve Muehlhausen), Steve (Deb) Crain, Anita Huddleston (Phil Heckathorn), and Jim (Andrea) Crain. Also surviving are many fond nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews

The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8th, at Kroeger Funeral Home (now Kroeger-Crain Funeral & Cremation). The funeral service and celebration of Dana’s life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, following visitation, also at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery next to “big Jim” Johnson.

Memorial contributions in Dana’s memory may be made to Pets R Us (Cass County Humane Society), 700 Water Street, Logansport 46947. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
