David M. Segraves, 62, of Logansport, Indiana was called home on August 31, 2023. David took his last breaths peacefully at Woodbridge Health Campus after a fifteen-year battle with Huntington’s Disease. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his mother and children, who he adored more than anything else in this world.
Born June 28, 1961, in Logansport, he was the son of Larry J. and Judith A. (Dunn) Segraves and was the oldest of six siblings. Whether it was playing sports or riding horses, he was always active and outdoors! An avid lover of all sports, especially the Indiana Hoosiers, he rarely missed a basketball game.
David was a 1979 graduate of Lewis Cass High School. He was a talented athlete and one of his highlights was being a part of the 1978 first ever Lewis Cass Sectional Championship Basketball team.
He worked at Wilson Foods for several years before the Logansport plant shut its doors in 1993. He finished his years working at Subaru of Lafayette until he no longer was able due to his illness.
David was formerly married to Robin (Williams) Jones, the mother of his two children, Lynnsey (Segraves) Bell and Garrett Segraves. Being a supportive father was of the utmost importance to David and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. His love for sports trickled down to his
children. He taught them the importance of commitment, hard work and preparation in everything they did. Being present at every sporting event and watching his children excel in athletics at the high school and collegiate levels made him extremely proud.
Watching his children marry and start families of their own quickly became some of his favorite moments in life! Earning the title of “Papaw” to seven beautiful grandchildren was his greatest love of all and brought him so much joy! He loved watching them grow over the years, and like his own children, he made certain he had a front row seat at every activity and event they were involved in! David will be forever remembered for his contagious smile and lively, positive outlook on life with a pinch of orneryness!
David is survived by his mother, Judith Segraves, Logansport; and two children, Lynnsey (Eric) Bell, Logansport; and Garrett (Katy) Segraves, Cicero. His seven grandchildren, Brynnley, Breckyn, Bexley and Bronson Bell, Logansport; and Bradford (Ford), AnnMarie and Elaine (Lainey) Segraves, Cicero.
Surviving siblings are his two brothers, Gregg Segraves, Sparta, TN; and Steve Segraves, Lafayette; and two sisters, Jody (Dan) Hollis, Fishers; and Tonya (Bill) Egbula, Simpsonville, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Segraves, and his brother, Brian Segraves.
