Donald L. Mayhew Obituary

Donald L. Mayhew, age 73, Westfield, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 9:27 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022, at I. U. Health North Hospital, Carmel.

Born August 17, 1948, in Logansport, he was the son of Keith and Gertrude Turner Mayhew.

In July of 2001, he was married to Annette Cooper, who survives residing in Westfield.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving in Viet Nam.

Don was retired from GTE/Verizon after 30 years of employment.

He was past commander and chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790. Don was also a member of the American Legion Post 60, Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, and past president of the Lucerne Lions Club.

Don was a member of Tipton Masonic Lodge #33 F&AM and Fort Wayne Scottish Rite.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Kenan Mayhew (Tom Weida), Florida, Melissa (Steve) Boggs, Indianapolis, Mechelle (Rob) Hillman, Westfield; brothers, Ron Mayhew, Florida, Reid (Kim) Harmon, Texas; sister, Deb Cusamano (Scott), Missouri.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Cagney Chentnik Pignot, Zionsville, Paige Mayhew Keifaber (Ty Reagan), Winamac, Benjamin Hillman, Westfield and Myles Hillman (fiance, Lili Whitehead). Myles is a United States Navy Seabee stationed on Guam; and a great grandson, Link Reagan, Winamac; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Chentnik; brothers, Bill Harmon, Gary Harmon, Danny Harmon; sisters, Melinda McCloskey and Phyllis Baker.

The visitation will be Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service and celebration of Don’s life and his service to our country and community will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, also at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Rev. Ken Smith officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by the Cass County Military Honors Funeral Detail as well as uniformed members of the United States Marine Corps.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 3790, 1023 Erie Avenue, Logansport, IN  46947.
