Doris Jeanette (Cappa) Blume, age 89, Logansport, passed away at 3:27 p.m. Thursday, January 9th, in Fort Wayne, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Cass County.
Born November 16, 1935, in San Francisco, Calif., she was the daughter of Eleanor B. (Trudell) and Claude L. Cappa. She was married Sept. 9, 1953, in Logansport to Ronald K. Blume, who died in 2008.
Doris retired from Best Day Nursery in 1995 after 20 years of service as a preschool teacher impacting the lives of countless children in Logansport. Doris continued to devote her life to her son with special needs, Bill, for all 55 years of his time with her.
She lived an active and independent 89 years enjoying camping, fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, crafting, and much more. She regularly attended the All Saints Church Bereavement Group since the passing of her husband and was a member of the Miami Baptist Church.
She had a standing 11:00 a.m. Thursday lunch date with her friends every week.
Doris was a lover of all animals and hater of none. Over the years she helped take care of many traditional and non-traditional family pets including cats, dogs, hamsters, mice, snakes, and even raccoons.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; three sons, Donald E. Blume, Kris L. Blume, and William (Bill) K. Blume; one niece, Doris Heishman; two grandchildren, Kristin M. Blume and Andrew (Drew) S. Wilson; her parents; and her stepfather, Willard S. Snodgrass.
Surviving are her daughter, Sheila K. Anderson and her husband, Rex; son, Craig L. Blume and his wife Andra; sister, Bertha F. Selders; nephew, David M. Powlen; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Emily, Nathan, Matthew, Kyle, Kasey, Brian, and Shelly; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following at 4:00 p.m., with Rev. Ryan Lewellen officiating.
Private interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Lucerne, at a later date.
