Edith M. "Edie" Hildebrandt Obituary

Edith Madeline (Scagnoli) Hildebrandt went to be with her loving Savior and Lord, surrounded by her family, on November 23rd, 2023.

Born in Logansport December 19th, 1927, her parents were Giuseppe Scagnoli and Marfina Marocco, of Logansport Indiana.

Edie was a life-long member of All-Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Joseph’s), where she married the love of her life, Alan Hildebrandt, on February 7, 1948. Alan preceded her in death on May 16th, 2023, after more than 75 years of marriage.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, “Edie” was a life-long homemaker in every sense of the word. Her family was central to her life, and included her daughter Ann, who preceded her in death November 27, 2018, son Mark, her five adult sisters and six adult brothers and their families, the Hildebrandt side of her family, which included Alan’s brothers John and Hiram, and their wives, children and grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Edie made friends easily and counted those wonderful friends as family.

She graduated from Logansport High School in 1945 and attended Indiana Business College. She spent a number of years as a loyal volunteer of many organizations, most notably, with the Red Cross in many capacities, including After Hours Armed Forces Emergency Services liaison for 30 years, Board Member and Chair, and Blood Bank Chair, with more than 50 years with the American Red Cross. Other notable accomplishments and affiliations include a 2010 Distinguished Hoosier Award (along with Alan), All Saints Ladies Society, 30+ year St. Vincent DePaul volunteer, Second Mother’s Study Club, Past President and member of Kila Club, member of Tri Kappa active and associate chapters, serving as President, and St. Joseph Hospital Gray Lady volunteer.

Like Alan, Edie enjoyed playing the thought-provoking card-game “bridge” and enjoyed countless times playing with other couples and her beloved “bridge ladies”.

Edie is survived by son Mark (Barbara) Hildebrandt, grandchildren Timothy “TJ” (Elaine) Carson, Liz Carson (Zach), Katie (Jeremy) Collins, Dr. Megan (Connor) Adams, Andrew Hildebrandt (Kaylee) and great grand-daughter Jordyn Collins.

Edie was preceded in death by husband Alan, daughter Ann, Edie’s parents, her five sisters, five of her six brothers, and more than a few nieces and nephews.

She was especially grateful to the loving residents and Staff at Cedar Creek Assisted Living who all welcomed her warmly as part of their vibrant and caring community the last three months of her life.

The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29th, at All Saints Catholic Church. Father Michael Block will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Prior to the funeral mass, in the Parish Hall at All Saints Church.

Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, with her husband and daughter, will be at a later date.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
