Fred C. Alcorn, 87, of Logansport, Indiana, passed away on October 26, 2023, in Pensacola, Florida, due to complications associated with kidney failure and infection.
Mr. Alcorn was born in Buffalo Valley, TN. He graduated from Buffalo Valley High School and moved to Logansport where he met the love of his life, Shelby. He was employed at and retired from Palumbo Distributing Company and Deichmann Excavating.
In the late 1960s UL Jones and Fred purchased the Lake Cicott Gun Club and ran it for several years. After selling the gun club he began running the Izaak Walton League of America Gun Club. In1971, he assumed the interim coaching position for the Babe Ruth Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Giants team. He continued to coach and took the position as the League President in 1986.Fred was inducted into the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 1988. He continued as the League President until 1991 at which time he became the Vice-President he also took up the position of District 4 Commissioner in 1997.
Fred and Shelby enjoyed traveling and visited several foreign countries. During their retirement, they traveled across the United States with friends by RV convoy.
He was preceded in death by father and mother, Clayton Emerson and Wilma Weba Alcorn, wife Shelby Jean (Randolph), his son Kenneth Mark Alcorn, and great-grandson Ray Lee Lincoln III (Bub). Survivors include his two sons, Fred Jr (Kathy), Milton, FL; Randy (Rhonetta), Logansport, IN; daughter-in-law, Cheryl, Logansport, IN; and sister, Josephine Huddleston, Logansport, IN. He had eight grandchildren: Misty (William) Moyer, Elkhart, IN; Natasha (Lance) Steward, Panama City, FL, Fred III, Milton, FL; Randy II (Sierra), Osceola, IN; Megan (Ryan) Jones, Royal Center, IN; Jean Mills, Logansport, IN; Tara (Aram) Batchelor, Logansport IN; Heather (Buddy) Grigsby, Logansport IN. He also had nineteen great-grandchildren: Alexander and Cameron Moyer, Elkhart, IN; Isabella Alcorn, Milton FL; Meilani VanDeKeere, Osceola, IN; and Rylan, Keeley, Brinnedy, and Kabela Jones, Royal Center, IN; Corey Mills, Logansport, IN; Mason (Liz) Mills, Logansport, IN; Brady (Ashley) Mills, Logansport, IN; Braxton Mills, Logansport, IN; Alyssa (Nick) Cole, Manchester, IN; Brianna Hubenthal, Logansport, IN; Krista Batchelor, Logansport, IN; Victorya Batchelor, Logansport, IN; Dakota Batchelor, Logansport, IN; Shaelyn Lincoln, Logansport, IN; and Tiara Lincoln, Logansport, IN.
A public visitation service will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 5th, at Kroeger Funeral Home, where friends may visit and are asked to wear baseball or Snoopy apparel.
Interment will take place at Mt Hope Cemetery on Monday, November 6th at 10:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Fred III (Clayton) Alcorn, William (Bill) Moyer, Ryan Jones, Randy II Alcorn, Alexander and Cameron Moyer.
