Harry E. Burkhart, Jr., age 93, Logansport, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at WoodBridge Health Campus.

Harry was born at home in Washington Township, Cass County. He was the son of Harry E. Sr., and Julia Tieman Burkhart. Harry always lived within a mile of his birthplace and the family farm.

On January 12, 1951, in St. James Lutheran Church Parsonage, Logansport, he married Dorothy Gotshall, whom he had met at Rural Youth.

A member of St. James Lutheran Church, he served as Trustee, Head of the Trustees and an usher for many years.

Harry was a 1947 graduate of Washington Township High School. His first off-the-farm job was working at Louis Kasch’s feed store. A life-long farmer with his father, Harry Sr., and his son, Darwin, he also repaired small engines and enjoyed repairing firearms. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club (call sign K9HFC). He worked as part-time security guard at RBM Manufacturing and became Chief of Security there. Harry served as Special Deputy for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and later as a member of the Sheriff’s Merit Board.

The loving father of a daughter, Darla Ward, Logansport; two sons, Wendell (Diane), Evansville, and Darwin (Jenise), Logansport. He was the proud grandfather of six, David (Megan) Ward, Elk Grove, California, Tim (Kristine) Ward, Florissant, Missouri, Brian (Chelsea) Burkhart, Evansville, Bradley (Julie) Burkhart, Evansville, Matthew (Ashlynn) Burkhart, Whitestown, and Brandon Burkhart, Logansport. Harry was the great-grandfather of eleven, Leah, Jolie and Elliot Ward, Madelyn and Alison Ward, Lex and Lucas Burkhart, Makayla and Lincoln Burkhart, and Benjamin and Grant Burkhart; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Harry in death were his wife, Dorothy, great-granddaughter, Alison Ward, and son-in-law, Bruce Ward.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11th, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor K. C. Dehning officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10th, at Kroeger Funeral Home, and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church.
