John T. "Jack" Baker Obituary

The following obituary was written by Mr. Baker.

John T. “Jack” Baker, age 86, Logansport, passed away at 1:00 a.m. Monday, March 3rd, in Miller’s Merry Manor, of complications from MDS. (Look it up!)

He was born on June 17, 1938, in Logansport, the son of Thomas and Virginia (Mull) Baker.

On July 17, 1965, he married Linda (Preston) Baker.

Jack was a graduate of the University of Idaho and Purdue University. He served three years (1961-1964) as an Engineering Officer in the United States Navy: Two years aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Shangra La (CVA-38) and one year aboard a troop transport, the USS Montrose (APA-212). He, with his brother, Chuck, was a third generation owner of Baker Specialty & Supply Company, Inc., where he served as Secretary-Treasurer.

Jack enjoyed teaching Math (part-time) for IUK, Purdue Technology (Kokomo), Ivy Tech (Logansport) and El-Tip-Wa for more than thirty-five years. He was a licensed Professional Engineer and held a Commercial Pilot’s license. He was a member of the former Morning Kiwanis Club, the American Legion & the Logansport Elks. Jack was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, but until recently attended the Idaville First Church of God.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family!

Jack is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Lauri (Jeff) Ulmer and Sarah (Charlie) Cline; five grandchildren, Samuel (McKenzie) and Emma Cline, and Ashley, Chloe, and Carson Ulmer; brother, Chuck (Nancy) Baker; brother-in-law, Bud (Ginger) Preston; sister-in-law, Jean (Glen) Peters; his dog, Sophie; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dave Baker and Jim Baker.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6th, at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home.

The funeral service and celebration of Jack's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Keith Raderstorf officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, with full military honors provided by uniformed, active-duty members of the United States Navy and our local Cass County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unrestricted Endowment of the Cass County Community Foundation, into a fund established by the Jack and Linda Baker Family. (The Cass County Community Foundation, PO Box 441, Logansport, IN  46947. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
