Myra A. Vanecek Obituary

Myra A. Vanecek, age 99, Logansport, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, at 6:22 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2021, two days short of her one hundredth birthday.

Born December 19, 1921, in Logansport, Myra was the daughter of Ross Emmerson and Ethel Pearl McMullen Noble. On November 5, 1941, she was married to John L. Vanecek, who preceded her in death on May 25, 1985.

A 1939 graduate of Logansport High School, Myra was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

For 99 years and 363 days, Myra had an amazing life and filled her days loving her family and community. She believed that “Making a Difference” should be a part of everyone’s life...and as a proud Hoosier she made a difference in the town and state that she loved, Logansport, Indiana. Many times, she was a faithful worker helping others organize an event, and many times she was the leader of the campaign or event. Myra was active well into her mid-90s.

Although she was surprised when recognized for her volunteerism, she acquired numerous awards: like the 2001 Cass County Republican of the Year; 2000-2001 Appreciation Award from Lions International; 2006 Outstanding Service Award where they named Myra Vanecek Day on December 23, 2006; 1981-1982 Award from the Cass County Chamber of Commerce for her work with the Iron Horse Festival; in 2015 she was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, given by the Governor of Indiana to distinguished citizens of the state; and most recently, DAR recognized her 40 years of dedicated service –– to name a few.

Surviving are daughters, Manda Hurdelbrink, Villa Hills, Kentucky, Minta Fahey, Naperville, Illinois; grandchildren, Amy Hurdelbrink, Emily Hurdelbrink, Jessica Eaton, Conor (Katie) Fahey; great grandchildren, Morgan Eaton, Deckard Eaton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are brothers, Jim Noble, Bob Noble; sisters, Irene Thorpe, Frances Warner, Bette Powell and Laura Michael.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22nd, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Pastor David Smith officiating. The Olde Towne Chapter, DAR, will conduct a Memorial Service at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in San Pierre Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Olde Towne Chapter DAR, c/o Judy Williamson, 824 High Street, or to Trinity Lutheran Church, 97 E. Market Street, both in Logansport, 46947. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
