Olive King Obituary

Olive Evelyn Fahler King, age 100, Logansport, was called home peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 27, 2021, at her residence with her children present.

Born at home, in Star City, on July 15, 1921, she was the daughter of Hovey Otto Fahler and Goldia Mae Clark Fahler. Her mother died when she was 16. Her father then married Lillian Geier.

Olive was married in Logansport on November 30, 1947, to Charles Franklin King. She graduated from Star City High School, earned her B.S. in Home Economics, Physical Education and Health, and an M.A. from Ball State in Education. Olive was a member of Beta Gamma Chapter of Tri Sigma Sorority and charter member of Mu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, an international honorary for women educators. After graduation she was County Extension Agent for Cass and Vanderburgh counties. She taught at Royal Center, Onward, and Logansport High schools.  Olive served as Dean of Girls at LHS for fourteen years.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Olive loved God, her church and her family above all else. She was happy just being in her home and enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events. She valued past memories and the people in her life. Though a very private person in some aspects, she was a good conversationalist, especially with those close to her. Bedridden for the past seven months, she retained an excellent memory and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and word searches to the very end. She lived and looked to the future as if she might live forever.

Surviving are son, Stephen Clark King (Judy), Reelsville, Indiana; daughter, Susan Elaine Boes (Edward), Lafayette; four grandchildren: Cynthia Marie Santoro (Domenico), Kevin Matthew Boes  (Sheri), Bradley Andrew Boes, and Brian Joseph Boes (Jessica); two half sisters, Margaret Fahler Sgritta (Tom) and Mary Fahler Disabato (Edward); nieces, Nanette Fahler, Phyllis (wife of Krege Fahler) and Sue (wife of Keith Fahler). Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Robert F., Matt, Tammy, Artie, Letha, Mary Lee, Lori, Jeff, Ryan, Robert D. and their families and Patty McClure Carter; also, close college friend, Martha Ervin of Muncie who is 102.

Olive was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles (2012); parents, Hovey and Goldia Fahler and step-mother, Lillian Geier Fahler; brother Merl and wife Bethya Fahler; nephews, Krege and Keith Fahler, along with a niece, Suzette Fahler Dine.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 East Market Street, Logansport.

The Requiem Mass will be at 12:00 Noon, Friday, November 5th, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 319 Seventh Street, Logansport, across the street from the funeral home.  Fr. Clark Miller will officiate the service.

Interment will follow in the Old Star City Cemetery in Star City.
