Shawnee Marie Rust Dyer, age 44, of Kokomo Indiana, passed away at 10:47 p.m. on March 24, 2025, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo
Shawnee’s surviving life-partner is George Walker. They had planned to be married later this year. As she neared the end of her life, they made a vow to be together forever in both love and spirit.
She was born September 21, 1980, in Logansport, Indiana, to her beloved parents, William Eugene Rust and Patricia Ann Holley Rust.
Shawnee was full of life. She knew she wasn't perfect and didn't try to be, but she was always there for her friends and family when it meant the most.
She loved spending time with her daughter, Shannon, and her grand babies, and having adult, “girly” sleepovers with her sister. She enjoyed dancing and singing.
Shawnee loved all types of music, from Christian songs, to Creed, to Evanescence, or to her “newest favorite anything” song by Jelly Roll.
She loved taking evening cruises on summer nights and waking up just early enough to watch the sun come up, because she thought it was beautiful, and then fall back asleep.
For anyone who really, truly knew Shawnee, knew she had a lot of love to give inside of her, and knew she was beautiful from the inside out. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She had a funny way of showing things sometimes, but that was just her. Shawnee had a great love for her pets, make up, and having her hair done – then everyone called her "Miss Diva".
Shawnee was preceded in death by her grandparents, paternal great grandparents, and stepdaughter, Amber M. Moore.
Shawnee is survived by both parents, William and Pat Rust of Grants, New Mexico; two brothers, William H. Rust of Kentucky, and Isaac H Rust of Lafayette, Indiana; one sister, Cheyenne (Colten) Garrett, Peru, Indiana; daughter, Shannon Dyer, Logansport, and son, Levi Dyer, Logansport; grandchildren, Kaylynne Burris and Jacob Burris, both of Boswell, Indiana, Jackson Robertson, Peru, and Makaya Moore; several nieces and nephews, who loved her very much!
She is also survived by her mother and father-in-law, Joann and Don, and sisters-in- law, Gerrie Walker, Shannon Gaugh, Tonya Cybert; one brother-in-law, Erick Cybert. Her long-time, best friend of 26 years, Diana Brown, also survives.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Logansport Church of Christ in Logansport at a later date, with Pastor Jeff Strite officiating.
Family and friends will be notified of the date and time when it is scheduled.
I am not gone, I'm just asleep.
So, do not cry for me.
I am not hurting, God set me free,
So, do not cry for me.
Remember all the happy times, and how we used to be,
Be happy that I hurt no more, but please do not cry for me, for I am now set free!
