Shirley Crain Obituary

Shirley Marie Langston Crain, age 69, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, in Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel.

Born in Parkdale, Arkansas on July 22, 1952, she was the daughter of J.T. and Evelyn Pope Langston.

On October 9, 1971, after a courtship of four years, she was married to the love of her life, Donald Anthony Crain, and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Surviving her are children, Michelle Louise Crain (Brian Justice), Logansport, Adam Anthony (Amanda) Crain, Logansport, and Melissa Marie (Ryan) Lower, Noblesville; grandchildren, Kailyn Louise, Bradey Anthony, Ethan Alan, Kessler Aden, and Murphy Alexandra; siblings, Larry Langston, Illinois, Steve Langston, Logansport, Glinda Whitham, Logansport, Kathy (Perry) Shoemaker, Arizona, Connie (Alan) Pickering, North Carolina, and Marilyn Singley, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Shirley in death were siblings, Tim Langston, Susan Langston, and Cindy Langston; brother in-law, Dave Whitham; and sister-in-law: Joan Langston.

She was a 1970 graduate of Logansport High School. Shirley was a volunteer at her children’s school and that segued into working as an aide for kindergarten children.

She was Planning and Development Coordinator at Logansport Memorial Hospital and retired after 22 years.

Shirley was an active member of Vineyard Community Church where she had served as greeter, usher and taught children’s Sunday school class.

Above all, Shirley loved her family. Each of her three children felt her individual love. She loved each of them the way they needed to be loved. At one time, the three children, all in sports, were going three different directions and she was the coordinator. At the end of the day, they wanted a home-cooked meal prepared by mom.

Shirley was an avid gardener; her green thumb could grow anything, and her flower beds were beautiful. Her husband Don loved to garden and Shirley would can and preserve everything he produced.

She was never a stranger to any type of work. Any project her husband or children dreamed up, she was eager to help facilitate and was the best cleanup crew around. Shirley loved her grandchildren and one of her favorite things was to read books to them and instill the love of reading. Shirley touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all.

Shirley's visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Kroeger Funeral Home, and on Friday, January 28th, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Her service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bruce Vernon.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
