Tom Herd, age 65, Logansport, passed away unexpectedly June 29th in his residence, of natural causes.
Born and raised in Logansport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Holton Herd. Tom was a graduate of Logansport High School class of ’78. After high school he went on to University of Kentucky where he earned his degree in Business. Once returning to Logansport he worked for many years at the Joe Herd Insurance Agency and Consolidated Union.
He was an avid sports fan, music enthusiast, rescuer and lover of all animals. He enjoyed playing, watching or just talking about sports. If there was an obscure sports trivia question Tom Herd was your guy. He also enjoyed years of Indy 500 races and competitive Euchre games. He had an amazing sense of humor that could make anyone laugh and was a friend to many, but considered family by most.
The majority of Tom’s life was dedicated to giving back to his community. For thirty plus years he was a big brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cass County. This is where he changed the lives of his little brothers for the better. To them and that organization, he was a true blessing.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Michael and Jerry (Herd) Hudson, brother, Tim Herd. His nieces, Lindsay (Herd) MacLachlan, Jill (Hudson) Braun and nephews, Joseph Hudson, Justin Herd and many cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Cass County Humane Society or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana.
